This is a screen using toy objects, a photo scene, a 6-picture sequence, and a photocopiable score sheet, all based on a ducks’ picnic.
The toy objects include a dog hand puppet, a Mummy duck hand puppet, a baby duck, 2 plates, a teapot, a cup, a knife, fork and teaspoon, a sponge, 2 pieces of fruit and 2 pieces of pizza (all of which can be cut).
The photo scene shows all the toy objects together in a scene for you/your child to match with the objects. It is A4 size, laminated and backed with card.
The 6 picture cards show the simple sequence of going for a picnic, with the dog taking the baby duck’s pizza. The pictures are laminated and backed with card, and measure approximately 14cm square.
The assessment ‘crib’ and score sheet is 4 sides of A4 laminated, and is photocopiable. It lists between 7 and 11 questions for each of the 4 levels, with 35 questions in all.
Each skill item shows the resources you need from the pack, the question to ask, and the suggested answer, with a space for the child’s response/a tick or cross. There is a sub-total box for each level to help decide which level your child is functioning. There is a comments box on the first page. The score is mainly qualitative, although I have included at least 7 questions for each level which should give a good idea of the level.
All the toy objects fit into an A4 zipped bag; the photo and picture sequence fit into an A4 popper bag; and both are labelled with a brown parcel tag.
This is a screen of questions normally asked by teachers and is a good preparation for school starters. This particular pack has been designed to appeal to children who prefer large doll play and puppets.
Recommended for children with delayed language, children with autism, and children learning English.
