This is a pack to help verbal children aged 5-8 years develop conversational skills in a structured way using speech bubbles and scripts.
Symbols are introduced in the rules to help children use different skills: greetings, questions, comments, giving information, and endings.
The activities start with very simple verbal turn taking in a ‘Snap’ game (cards will vary - currently dinosaurs), move to matching filled speech bubbles to 4 pictured scenarios, then to a ‘Show and Tell’ activity, and finally Choosing a Conversation Topic and working through a ‘mapped’ template for up to 5 turns each.
There are 10 topics available to choose - up to 6 can be selected to place on the front of the baseboard (there are 4 on the back). Topic symbols: family, friends, school, animals, food, holiday, computer games, iPad, tv programmes, weekend.
There are separate empty speech bubbles which can be written on using a non-permanent marker (included in this pack) and wiped clean for repeated use.
There are some example question starters as these are often tricky.
The separate bag of toys includes 2 animal finger puppets and a boy and a girl doll to model all the conversation activities, a non-permanent marker and a tote bag with 3 different toys/objects to model the Show and Tell activities (these objects will vary).
Recommended for verbal children with autism or other pragmatic language difficulties.
