Picture Resources: picture cards + tips to help your child understand and use ‘In/On/Under/Around/Over/Through’ in 3 word level sentences.
These resources are designed to be used with the ‘Rosie’s Walk’ book, but the activities can also be used without the book.
The picture cards are of a hen and a fox attached to a baseboard with Velcro dots, that are compatible with PECS products (Picture Exchange Communication System).
There are 6 place boards altogether, designed as 2 different games: the Hen House and the Tractor for in/on/under, and the Haystack, Pond, Fence and Beehive for over/in, around/in, through/on and under/in respectively. These place pictures are backed with card for extra durability. The Velcro dots are positioned to enable correct placement, and all except the pond have a 3D aspect so the animals can be placed ‘through’, ‘under’ and ‘in’ realistically.
The Place cards can also be used to retell the story using the sequence of some key events.
There is one pack of 12 picture instruction cards, featuring each of the animals in/on/under the hen house or tractor, and a second pack of 16 picture instruction cards showing each of the animals in each position on the haystack, pond, fence and beehive.
The resources are designed to help children understand use prepositions up to the 3 word level (put the FOX UNDER the TRACTOR; put the HEN THROUGH the FENCE).
Finally there is an A4 advice sheet, laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic, with tips for using the resources to boost your child’s speech and language, gained from my 30 years work as a Speech and Language Therapist (now retired).
The picture resources and advice sheet are laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic, and all fit into an A4 Popper bag, labelled with a brown parcel tag ,for convenience and durability.
This resource extends the language-boosting potential of a well-loved book, with picture games that work well for children with delayed language, for children with autism, and for children learning English as an additional language.
