Picture Resources: rhyming lotto + picture cards + tips to help your child understand and use more words related to animals and places.
These resources have been developed for use with ‘The Snail and the Whale’ book, but all the activities can also be used without the book.
The rhyming lotto has a baseboard (approximately A4 size) and 12 pictures that rhyme and relate closely to the book, all laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic.
The picture characters are of a whale (with a snail on its tail), turtle, monkey, crab, seagull and parrot, all laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and attached to a baseboard with Velcro dots, that are compatible with PECS products (Picture Exchange Communication System).
There is 1 placeboard, A4 size, of a sea scene, with Velcro dots positioned on the sea, the beach, the tree and the sky, laminated and backed with card for extra durability.
There is a pack of 12 picture instruction cards, measuring approximately 5” x 3.5”, featuring each of the animals/birds in 2 of the places (e.g. the seagull in the tree, the crab on the beach), laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and held together with an elastic band.
The resources are designed to help children understand use language at the 1 word level (where is the WHALE?) and the 2 word level (put the PARROT in the SKY; the TURTLE is SWIMMING).
Finally there is an A4 advice sheet, laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic, with tips for using the resources to boost your child’s speech and language, gained from my 30 years work as a Speech and Language Therapist (now retired).
The picture resources and advice sheet fit into an A4 size popper bag, labelled with a brown parcel tag ,for convenience and durability.
This resource extends the language-boosting potential of a well-loved book, and I recommend it for use with children with delayed language, children learning English, and children with Autism.
