These are designed to be used with Raymond Briggs’ book ‘The Snowman’, but all the activities can also be used without the book.
There are 18 Snap cards featuring 9 actions shown in the book, with a range of snowmen: these can be used to play ‘Snap!’ or ‘Pairs’.
The picture cards are of a Mum, a Dad, a boy and a snowman (as in the book), laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and attached to a baseboard with Velcro dots, that are compatible with PECS products (Picture Exchange Communication System).
There are 4 place boards of a snow scene, a fireside, a fridge and a cooker, laminated and backed with card for extra durability. These all feature in the book, and can be used to talk about ‘hot’ and ‘cold’.
There is a pack of 16 picture instruction cards, featuring each of the characters in each place (e.g. the boy by the fire, the snowman next to the cooker), laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and held together with an elastic band.
The resources are designed to help children understand use language at the 1 word level for actions and HOT/COLD (who’s EATING?, who’s COLD?), and at the 2 word level (put the DAD in the SNOW; put MUM by the FIRE).
The picture resources and advice sheet fit into a sturdy A5 zipped bag, labelled with a brown parcel tag ,for convenience and durability.
This resource extends the language-boosting potential of a well-loved book, with picture games that work well for children with delayed language, for children with autism, and for children learning English as an additional language.
