This pack uses ‘Colourful Semantics’ theory to support Early Years Maths Targets as follows:
EYFS Maths Targets Numbers N15, N16, N20, N23 (40-60 months): Recognises numerals 1-5; counts up to 3 or 4 objects; selects the correct numeral to represent 1-5; uses the language of ‘more’ or ‘fewer’ to compare 2 sets of objects.
Y1 Maths Target Measurements: I know and use words relating to days.
The pack helps children to use and understand the following words/concepts:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday; one, two, three, four, five, lots, more, fewer; apple, pear, plum, strawberry, orange, food.
There are 5 colour-coded squares with matching question words: orange-Who?, yellow-What doing?, brown- When?, cloud shape - What like? (How many?), green - What?
There are 3 different 4-part colour coded sentence strips with pairs of colour-coded pictures to match as follows: 2 subjects (caterpillar, I ), 2 actions (ate, see), 7 days of the week, 8 number cards, 12 object cards.
The visual resources are used to describe pages from the Hungry Caterpillar book (you will need the book for this activity - NB the book is not included with this pack) and to compare 2 pictures using the words ‘more’ and ‘fewer’.
The visual resources and an A4 laminated page of tips fit into an A4 popper bag, labelled with a brown parcel tag for convenient storage and portability.
This pack will help your child learn some maths concepts and take turns commenting using 4 word sentences, supported by colour-coding. Highly recommended for children with delayed language and children with autism.
