“Winnie Wagtail” book + Heads & Tails Lotto/Pairs/Snap + picture card sets x 2 + story sequencing lotto + ‘I can see...’ strip with pictures + tips to help your child understand and use words for farm animals, feelings, and parts of the body.
The book is a brand new paperback book: it measures 10” x 9”, and has 24 pages featuring a story about a puppy who can’t wag her tail.
There is a “Heads and Tails” lotto game: 4 sets of 2 animals (most are featured in the book), and matching heads and tails for each. This can also be used as a ‘Snap!’ or ‘Pairs’ game, and helps children use and understand 2 word level phrases e.g. ‘the COW’S HEAD’, ‘the DUCK’S TAIL’.
The first set of picture cards are of a happy and sad duck, cat and puppy. They are attached to a labelled lotto baseboard with Velcro dots, that are compatible with PECS products (Picture Exchange Communication System).
There are 2 place boards, size A5, of a field and a bridge (both places are featured in the story), backed with card for extra durability.
There is a pack of 12 picture instruction cards, featuring each of the characters in each place (e.g. the SAD PUPPY in the FIELD, the HAPPY DUCK on the BRIDGE).
The second set of picture cards are A5 size and feature a puppy, a donkey and a cat with moveable tails and ears. There are 12 picture cards giving instructions to ‘wiggle/stroke the animal’s ears’ or ‘wag/stroke the animal’s tail’.
The story sequencing lotto set includes 5 strips of 3 pictures, attached with treasury tags, and 15 matching pictures. The language used includes short sentences and some dialogue e.g. “Don’t worry”, ‘the horse swished its tail’.
The ‘I can see..’ activity includes an ‘I can see’ strip with 9 pictures that form simple sentences to comment on the pages of the book e.g. ‘I can see horse’.
The resources are designed to help children understand and use language at the 1 word level for feelings, animals, and parts of the body (Who’s HAPPY?, where’s the DUCK?, where’s his TAIL?), at the 2 word level (give me the SHEEP’S TAIL; where’s the SAD DUCK?), and at the 3 word level (put the SAD CAT on the BRIDGE, WAG the DONKEY’S TAIL).
Finally there is an A5 advice sheet, with tips for using the resources to boost your child’s speech and language, gained from my 30 years work as a Speech and Language Therapist (now retired).
All the picture resources are laminated using non-reflective Matt plastic.
The picture resources and advice sheet all fit into a sturdy A5 zipped bag, labelled with a brown parcel tag ,for convenience and durability.
This resource extends the language-boosting potential of a great book, with picture games that work well for children with delayed language, for children with autism, and for children learning English as an additional language.
